Choosing the Perfect Tones for Your Fall Family Photos
Fall is hands down one of my favorite times for family photos—the golden leaves, the cozy sweaters, and that warm, glowy light that makes everything feel magical. Every year, I get asked the same question:
“What should we wear for fall pictures?”
First, take a deep breath—you don’t need to overthink it! The goal isn’t to be super “matchy-matchy,” but to choose colors and textures that feel natural, comfortable, and timeless. When you love what you’re wearing and feel good in it, it always shows in your photos.
Here are some palettes that photograph beautifully this time of year.

Simple Styling Tips
Start with one outfit you love. Usually Mom’s or the kids’ outfit sets the tone, and everyone else can coordinate around it.
Mix textures. Knits, corduroy, denim, or flowy fabrics photograph beautifully and add coziness.
Coordinate, don’t match. Instead of everyone in the exact same color, pick 3–4 tones from your palette and spread them across the family.
Shoes count too! Neutral boots or leather shoes look so much better than bright sneakers (unless sneakers are your family’s thing—then rock them!).
Layer up. A scarf, cardigan, or jacket not only looks great but also gives variety to your photos.
A Few Things to Avoid
Bright neon colors (they fight with the natural fall tones).
Busy logos or super bold patterns that take attention away from your faces.
Everyone in the same exact color (it can look a little flat).
At the end of the day, the best photos don’t come from the outfits—they come from the giggles, the snuggles, and the little in-between moments you share as a family. The colors and clothes just help bring it all together.
